Lemon Thyme – Benefits, Use, and A Detox Water Recipe

Lemon thyme (Thymus citriodorus) the symbol of courage and bravery in the Ancient Greece, is one of my favourite herbs that combines the properties of thyme with a refreshing lemon scent and flavor. Intrestingly, it’s was assumed that it was a hybrid of garden origin, between Thymus pulegioides and Thymus vulgaris, but after DNA analysis revealed it is its own species (Thymus citriodorus). It is not only a culinary delight but also offers various health benefits.

In the antiquity it was abundant and was regarded as a cheap herb and was consumed by the poor. The ancient Greek soldiers would often bathe in thyme water to prepare for battle. And no wonder its lemony scent can have mood-lifting effects. It is often used in aromatherapy to reduce stress and anxiety, promote relaxation, and improve mood.
