Easy Essential Oil Tick Repellent Recipe

This is another easy water-based essential oil tick repellent recipe with 4 essential oils that we share today. We shared previously a DIY cedarwood oil tick repellent recipe, this one is a variation with 4 Essential oils.

How to Use Essential Oils Safely to Repel Ticks

Let’s start with few facts, that you need to know before using the essential oil tick repellent.

Quality

Choose 100% pure, organic oils from trusted brands to make sure you know what you get. If you know how to make your own, that’s the best essential oil to use.

Dilution

Always dilute essential oils (10–15 drops per 1–2 ounces of carrier oil or water) to avoid skin irritation. I usually use only water to avoid additional chemicals.

Patch Test

Before using the spray, test the diluted oil on a small area of your skin for 24 hours to check for any reactions.

Application

Spray on skin, clothing, ankles, and arms. Avoid contact with eyes and face. Reapply every 1–2 hours, as essential oils evaporate quickly.

From my experience, this blend keeps ticks away for 3-4 hours during outdoor activities, such as short hikes and gardening. However, I always wear light-colored protective clothing and check for ticks step-by-step when I get home.

Pet Safety

Cedarwood, geranium, and lavender are generally considered dog-safe when properly diluted; however, always consult a veterinarian before use. Avoid using these oils on cats, however, because most of them are toxic for cats.
